    Tsavo National Park

Tsavo National Park is the largest National Park in Kenya one of the largest in the world and the perfect addition to any Kenya holiday, due to the sheer size of the Tsavo National Park, it is split into two sectors – Tsavo West and Tsavo East, each as mesmerizing as the other and each provide as adventurous safaris as each other. The Tsavo itself is a textbook example of a savannah National Park. Luscious grasslands and woodland which depending on the season can be dry or well-watered provide a different feel all year round. The Tsavo National Park itself has a reputation for providing a fantastic Kenya safari adventure, the Tsavo is perfect for travellers who want to have a fantastic experience, getting up close and personal with some of the bigger animals without the addition of crowds of people. Tsavo West is most well-known for its breathtaking landscape of rocks and grassland. The mountainous backdrop, swamps, lakes and springs are only the beginning of the beauty that can be experienced in the Tsavo national park. The landscape itself makes spotting the animals a bit more challenging as they can hide amidst the vegetation, in comparison to the open plains of the Masai Mara, but don’t let this put you off. The Big Five, a range of antelopes, a huge variety of bird species and hippos can all be spotted in this natural habitat, not to mention smaller animals such as the bush baby and Masai giraffe. On the other hand the Tsavo East has a particular strong repute for its impressive herds of elephants and buffalos. It is flatter and drier than the west which consequently means that viewing game is easier. The diversity of animals means that there are up to five hundred different species of animals living within the two sectors. The park is not only attractive because of its wide variety of game, but also the natural features of the landscape which make it extra special for any visitors on their safari explorations. The first example of this is the Yatta plateau which is the world’s longest lava flow at 290km and also Lugards Falls which is a series of rapids for visitors to admire. Similarly there is the Mudanda Rock which has a dam at the base of it where animals can be seen drinking. This is not only a spot that can be enjoyed from your safari car, but you can even walk along the rock and appreciate the game in this way. It is in close proximity to the Amboseli National Park and is also not too far from Mombasa, which means that when you have had your fill of animals upon safari, the beach is not too far away for you to get pampered while relaxing.

    Tsavo East National Park

Tsavo East National Park is over 11,747 square kilometers of bushy grasslands, open plains, and semi-arid acacia scrub make up Kenya's oldest and largest Game Park. Tsavo is credited with one of the world's leading biodiversity strongholds. From red brown rivers surrounded by green grass and doum palms, to the endless plains covered in red dust, with a single surviving acacia tree, the scenery is constantly changing. Tsavo's stunning views include the Yatta Plateau, the largest lava flow in the world, Mudanda Rock, which resembles a smaller version of Ayers Rock, and the incredible Lugard Falls. Tsavo receives very little rain, the fantastic scenery make it perfect for those interested in photography safari, The main river that passes through this park is the River Galana. A variety of animals can be seen; buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard and cheetah. And while you are chasing the big ones, there are always waterbuck, oryx, klipspringer, gazelle, zebra and kudu to watch. Not to mention over 500 species of birds! Famous also for its past, Tsavo became known worldwide in the late 1890's for the man-eating lions which slowed the building of the Mombasa-Nairobi train tracks. For several months two large male lions terrorized the railway workers and brought work to a standstill until they were finally killed. Whilst those two animals are no longer in Tsavo, their descendants are; it is not unusual to see large prides lion lazing under a shady bush. The proximity of the Indian Ocean makes Tsavo a popular destination for many holiday travelers, who wish to rest and relax either before or after their Tsavo Jeep safari. In a comfortable jeep you will drive through the varying landscape of the Tsavo East, Holidays in Kenya provide some of the most stunning natural landscapes in the world and a magical mix of adventure and relaxation, from self catering apartments to luxury all inclusive beach bungalows, there’s a variety of beach bases from which to explore this amazing country, as surely, no holiday to Kenya would be complete without trying to glimpse some of the natural wildlife. Safaris to the Tsavo East or Tsavo West National Parks are available from most resorts. Watamu, towards the north of the coastline brings tropical mangroves and colorful birdlife together, with a magical Marine Natural Park and coral reef that you can walk to when the tide is out. Kilifi is another firm favorite, very quiet and low key, good value guest houses mix with luxurious hotels, and up market restaurants offering local cuisine. The scenic lakes offer the opportunity for sailing, diving and fishing, or take a romantic boat trip out onto the water to watch the sun come down over the Kenyan landscape.
